Signing up on Helium only takes 2 to 3 minutes. It's fairly a straightforward process where you need to provide your first name, age, gender, and the gender you want to meet on the app. You can sign up as a man, woman, transman, or transwoman. Likewise, you can also choose those four genders for the 'gender seeking' part. After providing those four details, you have to click the 'Begin' button. You will then be directed to an in-app captcha verification just to ensure that you are not a bot.

After the registration process, permission to access the device location will prompt which you need to enable or disable. Disabling the location access is permitted – however, you won't get any member suggestions on your list because the app won't be able to determine where you are. 

Also, uploading a profile photo is not required during the signup process. But, you cannot use the site's features without uploading one. You can, however, navigate the app to see all its feature offerings even without a profile photo.

Helium does not require its users to match first to enable unlimited chatting unlike most dating apps. So, instead of the roulette-type matchmaking where you need to swipe right or left, the Helium dating app gives you a list of members nearby your location. You can choose which profiles interest you and send them a message right away.

If you're feeling adventurous, Helium has a special feature called "Helium Pop". If you shake your phone, you'll instantly be matched to chat with a random person. A chat window opens and you can choose whether to say hi or close the window – no worries!

Helium also has community chat groups based on nearby locations. You can join the group and chat with other active members for free. However, based from our experience, there are zero activity in most of these groups.

In terms of searching for profiles, you can do so by clicking the 'magnifying glass button'. This will take you to the search filter, wherein in Helium is all about searching by keywords. You have to put in a keyword and the app will filter users nearby that have that specific keyword on their profiles.

Member profiles of Helium dating app do not show much information about the member. In fact, the only details found on a profile are; age, height, career position, and whether they smoke or not. There is also a place where members can write and publish a short bio.

Profiles also include a section for emojis picked by members that supposedly represent them. Members can show their personality through these small digital icons.

The photos uploaded on your profile don't show up in a gallery. Instead, all the photos are shown in full view – members can scroll down to see all your uploaded photos. Members can like your picture and the like count will show up on the bottom left side of each photo.

At the very bottom of every profile is the 'My Tags' section. In this section, users can put keyword tags so their profiles will be more searchable in the 'Keyword Search' feature.

Lastly, you can verify your profile to increase trust among other members. You can do this by uploading a verification photo. The verification photo is a real-time selfie, where Helium instructs you about the pose you need to make. Once it has been approved by Helium customer service, your profile can earn a verified badge.
