In 2011, Chris Pleines graduated with a degree in Media Informatics from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. During his studies, the proportion of women in his faculty was very low, which led him to look at the potential of online dating. Unfortunately, finding a good dating service right away was difficult, and most of the information he read about online dating sites was either outdated or inaccurate. This prompted Chris to start a blog sharing his experiences with online dating 15 years ago and soon after, he launched the Datingscout website. Today, Datingscout is the most comprehensive site for information on online dating in the U.S. – with over 2,994 reviews. Chris Pleines has also expanded his reach by reviewing online dating services in over 19 countries.
Since the founding of Datingscout, the reviews and articles of Chris Pleines have been referenced over 800 times. Magazines, websites, and journals frequently rely on the extensive information provided by Datingscout when covering topics about online dating. Chris Pleines has also attracted the attention of German mainstream media and appeared on "Pro7", "RTL", "Galileo" or the "ARD Mittagsmagazin". With over 15 years of experience, the expertise of the Datingscout editorial team has expanded to include up-to-date statistics, figures, reviews, and answers to all aspects of online dating.

Chris Pleines conducted the world's first study using artificial intelligence to analyze online dating profile pictures. More than 20 million pictures were evaluated to determine how online daters’ motives differ based on factors such as age group, gender, and country, among others. This comprehensive, 87-page profile picture study provides fascinating insights into the diverse and varied ways singles present themselves when dating online.
Information about the profile picture study can be found here.
In 2016, Chris Pleines published a Facebook study in collaboration with the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. The study revealed how diverse singles' dating preferences have become in recent years, and why selecting the correct online dating service is so important. The findings of this study led to the creation of the "Dating Barometer," an online dating recommendation tool. Singles can use this tool to receive personalized recommendations for the most suitable dating services.
There is a plethora of online dating services to choose from. However, there isn't a lot of useful information available on these. As a result, the goal of the Datingscout team is to thoroughly test online dating services and provide you, as our reader and user of these services, with a valuable and objective review for each dating site and app.
This makes choosing the correct dating site or app a lot easier, and you'll know what to expect from each service right away.
Chris Pleines is the co-author of the book Online Dating für Dummies. This book aims to help singles in finding a partner online by providing many practical tips and tricks ranging from selecting a dating service to the first date. It covers important points that every online dater should consider in a humorous yet informative manner.
This book is a must-read if you want to be well-prepared to navigate the online dating jungle.
